The Barron Hilton Cup hosts Competition Flying M Ranch Champions Contact Us
The Rules

The purpose of the competition is to promote long-distance gliding and to strengthen gliding contacts between the participating nations. With the addition of Daimler-Chrysler as a partner in 1996 – and now under the leadership of the European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company – the Barron Hilton Cup has become truly global in scope.
The competition area is divided into five geographic regions of the world.

1. All of Europe and all of Asia except Japan
2. Eastern USA and Canada
3. Western USA, Central and South America
4. Australia and Africa
5. Japan and New Zealand

In Region 1 there will be one winner in each of the following Classes: Standard, 15-meter, Open Class, Doubleseater, and Club Class. In each of the other groups there will be one winner only.
Competitors can only compete in the region of which they are permanent residents. The winner will be the pilot who is resident in one of the countries of the respective region and has achieved the highest point score for a flight according to the rules governing this region. Each competition covers a one-and-a-half-year period, running from March 15 until September 15 in the Northern Hemisphere and from September 15 until March 15 in the Southern Hemisphere.

The winners, each accompanied by a guest, will be hosted by Barron Hilton for a week-long soaring camp at the Flying-M-Ranch in Nevada. There they will have the opportunity to get to know and to fly with some of the best pilots in soaring. There is no contest at this encampment; the emphasis is on fun and record flying. The personal friendships that develop among the participants will last a lifetime. This is one of the great benefits, together with the promotion of cross-country soaring, that inspired the founders of the Barron Hilton Cup.
Repeat winners of the Barron Hilton Cup will be awarded the first place medal for their achievements; however, the invitation to the Soaring Camp will be extended to next eligible competitor. If there are more than three invitees of the same nationality, those with the greatest point difference to the silver medal winner will be invited. The others will be replaced by pilots from other countries, as long as they have at least 80% of the score of the gold medal winner of their class.
